Please allow at least two full working days before presuming your request has been completed. For example requests made after 6pm, weekends or a public holiday, are actioned by the staff on the next working day, i.e. ordered Saturday, next working day Monday, your prescription may be ready by Wednesday. The time to turn around prescription requests may be delayed by staff illness and ever-increasing workload. Whilst we will endeavour to keep to the two full working days timeline, during busy periods this may be extended. Please order all required medications at the one time, not a few one day and another within a few days.
Repeat prescriptions can be requested online, by telephone, filling in a repeat request form in the waiting room or by posting routine repeat list of medication to the surgery. We can only accept prescription requests over the phone between 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. The practice phones close 1pm to 2pm and only emergencies are dealt with at this time.
Please do not phone to confirm if your prescription is ready. All repeat medication requests made, are available for collection by pharmacies after two full working days. Non-repeat medication (Special) requests are not automatically issued, the staff will contact you if there is a message or a request is refused.
Most prescription requests will be sent to your nominated pharmacy. We discourage prescriptions being collected from the practice unless the item is required on the day.
If you run our of your repeat medication and don’t have enough time for the practice to process please contact your usual pharmacy. Generally a small supply of most repeat medication (not controlled drugs) can be given until your repeat prescription is processed.
If you are on a yearly (serial prescription) and wish extra medication for a holiday please contact your pharmacy to arrange this.
Please note if you are travelling or living abroad for a longer period there are limits to the amount of medication the NHS will prescribe.
Hospital Requests
When you are discharged from hospital you should normally receive one weeks’ supply of medication.
On receipt of your medication requirements, which will be sent to the practice by the hospital, the East Dunbartonshire Pharmacy Hub service will check and update your record and issue any prescriptions if required. They will contact you if they need to speak to you. Please note this service is not carried out in the practice.
Hospital requests for change of medication will be checked by the GP/Pharmacist first, and if necessary your Doctor will issue you with a Prescription. The Practice will endeavour to issue you with your prescription within 24 hours if urgent and 48 hours if no urgency specified, but it cannot be issued until your medical details are checked by the Doctor. We can only accept requests whereby the hospital has given us instructions in writing. We cannot accept verbal requests by patients.
The Doctors will review your medication, regularly, which may involve changes to your tablets, in accordance with current health Board policies. Please be reassured that this will not affect your treatment.
